Rev. Jeptha Vining was a zealous, faithful and successful minister of the gospel. He was raised a Presbyterian but later became a Baptist. He was baptized by Rev. Joseph Parker in 1761. After serving as pastor of Lynches Creek Baptist Church (Chesterfield District, S.C.)(1772-1775), Upper Fork Lynches Creek Baptist Church (Chesterfield District, S.C.), and Deep Creek Baptist Church (Chesterfield District, S.C.)(1778) he moved his ministry to Georgia.
He helped constitute Deep Creek Baptist Church in Chesterfield District, S.C. in 1778 and was the first pastor of it. Deep Creek Baptist Church was close to the N.C. line and had members from both Chesterfield District, S.C. and Anson County, N.C. Rev. Vining owned land in Anson County, N.C. in 1778. [Emphasis added] He helped constitute Long Creek Baptist Church in Georgia in 1786 and was at the Georgia Baptist Association as a delegate in 1788. He appears as pastor of Long Creek Baptist Church in 1792.
Rev. Vining was married twice, first to Amy Miller. He and Amy had the following children: Mary, Thomas, Ann, Abigail, Joshua, Uriah and Matthew. His second wife was the widow of Michael Thomas. According to the Long Creek Church minutes he died in October 1797 and is buried in the church yard in Warren County, Ga.
