Mrs. Arthur C. (Jennie Whalen) Garlie, 74, resident of the Gallatin Valley for more than four decades, died Saturday at the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.
She was born June 10, 1896, at Jefferson City, Tenn., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Whalen and attended schools there. After a short career as a hosiery mill inspector and with Bell Telephone Co., she came to the Gallatin Valley in 1926. She married Arthur C. Garlie here in July, 1927.
They lived in the Pass Creek area until moving to Manhattan in 1932. They moved to Bozeman in 1936.
Mrs. Garlie was a member of the Trenton Street Baptist Church in Harriman, Tenn.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, William Garlie of Malta; two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Audrey) Phelms of Harriman, Tenn., and Mrs. John (Bonnie) Kiefer of Freemont, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Two sons preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Dahl and Vial Chapel. Burial will be in the Meadowview Cemetery at Manhattan.
