The following information was provided by Mary Mullins Jones in 1997: Mary "Polly" Gambill was my dad's grandmother and buried on the old Rose Place, on the hill behind the farm where I was raised. The cemetery is Rose/Mullins Cemetery at Keaton, Ky, Johnson Co.. A very well kept cemetery and the graves marked well. Mary Polly's youngest daughter just passed away last month (Esta). She was over 100 years old. The youngest son, Charlie, died about 3 years ago and was 94, they still have a Memorial Meeting at this cemetery the first Sunday in June. My Mullins, Rose, Gambills, etc. are having a reunion September 26 on the same old Rose Land. The land was a grant given to Revolutionary soldiers as pay or something for their war service. If you ever travel in that county and want to visit these old Boggs, Gambill, Holbrook Cemetery, I can put you in touch with a person who can show you where they are located. I have taken lots of pictures of markers in these old cemeteries. I plan to attend the Reunion Rose/Mullins/Gambill in September and will take this information.

Rice February 01, 1883; born Bet. 1864 - 1865. 175 viii. Chilton Jeams Gambill, born Bet. 1860 - 1861 in Tenn; died 1930 in Pawnee, Oklahoma. He married Miram Jane Coffee October 01, 1885 in Johnson Co. Ky; born 1869 in In; died 1909 in Redbush, Johnson Co., Ky.

Notes for Chilton Jeams Gambill: The following information was provided by Betty Porterfield: Chilton Jeams Gambill was born in 1861 in Tennessee. His family had migrated to America from Ireland in the mid 1800's. He met and married Miriam Jane Coffee in 1884. She was of French-Indian descent. He and his wife left Tennessee and settled in Redbush, Kentucky and reared four children; two boys and two girls. They farmed tobacco. Chilton also did the blacksmithing for the community in which he lived. His wife died in 1909. He never adjusted to her death. He sent his older son to Ohio to live with his daughter and he left for "The New Land" Oklahoma. Two of his children came with him. He settled near Enid, Oklahoma around 1913 and started farming some land. He soon lost the land and moved to Pawnee, Oklahoma. He and his son opened a blacksmith shop and his daughter kept house. He bought a home with some land in The Farmers Union Gin Company Addition around 1916. After the end of World War I his other two children, and their families, joined him in Pawnee. He made good money as a blacksmith, but he never got over the loss of his wife. His drinking became a big problem to him and his family. He never cared for banks so he would keep his money hid all over his shop. He was always known to carry large sums of money. One Saturday night, in 1930, he didn't come home. His body was found under a railroad bridge not far from home. He had been robbed and beaten to death. His murder was never solved. One of the funniest memories I have of him was when he bought an old Model T. He had never driven a day in his life but, that didn't stop him. He decided he would stay off the roads by driving down the railroad tracks. Trains did it, so why should't he. Needless to say he got stuck and had to be pulled off. He usually hired a driver after that.

Notes for Miram Jane Coffee: Information provided by Betty McKenzie Porterfield: Miriam Jane Coffee was born in 1869 in Indiana. Among the settlers who came to the Americas in the 1800's, were the French. They settled among the Cherokee Indians and soon inter-married. Her heritage was of French- Indian descent. Her mother was 1/2 Cherokee and 1/2 French. In 1884, at the age of 15, she married Chilton Jeams Gambill. They moved to Redbush, Kentucky. They reared four children, two boys and two girls. She died in 1909 of Consumption, a lung disease, probably brought on by the long hours working in the tobacco fields. I never knew my grandmother, she died long before I was born, but my mother told me how hard she worked to make a happy home for all of them.
