Jean SERREAU dit SAINT AUBIN, born 1621 in the province of Poitou [France], arrived in Canada around 1660, established in 1662 on Ile d'Orleans on the ARGENTENAY seigneury. He married Marguerite BOILEAU and settled at Pesmocadie (Passamaquoddy) on the Sainte-Croix River in Acadia soon after 1676. In Jun 1684 he received a land grant which he made into a prosperous siegneury. He went to live on Ile Archimagan, near what is now town of St. Andrews, New Brunswick. In Aug 1692 he was taken prisoner by Col. Ben CHURCH. He distinguished himself in NFLD [Newfoundland?] in the service of his county while serving with Pierre LE MOYNE d'IBERVILLE, probably 1696-1697. He died at the age of 84. (Reference: Charles J. d'Entremont, DICTIONARY OF CANADIAN BIBLIOGRAPHY [BIOGRAPHY?]) A pass for Sieur ST. AUBIN from Jacques Francois de BROUILLIAN, governor of Acadia, dated 20 Nov 1703 at Port Royal, allows him to go to France "to give attention to his business." It is quoted in full. References
