I believe Jean Reid age 4m in 1841 who is shown at Hammer with the Mainland family is the right Jean baby.

Margaret Mainland age 1 would make the mother Christina Mainland the ideal wetnurse for the baby.

John Seatter is shown at home alone.


There is no Jean Seatter age about 1 in the 1841 Census and there is no baptism of a newborn Jean Reid in 1840-1841. I believe when the census was taken, Jean Reid was the surname given by mistake. May find that the Mainlands are related to the Reids rather than the Seatters.


Jean Seatter is shown correctly at Newark in the next census.
