Jean Monet was "Engaged" by contract to marry Marie Galbrun. This contracted engagment was "annulled" on March 27, 1674. The reason for annullment is sketchy. Jean was born around 1647 in Cognac, France. Son of Michel Monet originally from St. Hilaire-de-Dampierre-sur-Boutonne, part of St. Jean d'Angely, Poitou, Charante-Maritime and son of Marie Bratelle of Cognac, eveche de Saintes, Saintonge, Charante-Maritime. The township of Dampierre-sur-Boutonne situated within the valley of the Boutonne at/in about 100km around to the west of d'Angouleme and at 15km to the north at St.Jean d'Angely sur la D115.

At age 18 Jean was confirmed at Notre Dame in Quebec on July 25, 1665.
