Jean wrote to her sister Elizabeth in Merigomish, Nova Scotia in 1823, giving details of siblings children etc. Jean’s 2 daughters, Elizabeth age 7 and a name daughter for her sister Elizabeth (Thompson)and also Margaret (Peggy) age 4. The family lived in Claybraes, Rapness, Westray, Orkney in 1823, and had been for 9 years. The family are to be found in Catherine Place, Kirkwall, Orkney in the 1841 Census. Walter a fisherman. No identifiable marriage in Kirkwall for either daughter. In 1851, also Catherine Place, Kirkwall, Jean was a wool spinner age 72 yrs and Walter was a shoemaker age 64 years. Jean died in 1855, a widow. Res in Kirkwall 25 yrs. making it around 1830 that they shifted to Kirkwall from Westray. |
