Graduated from West High, Rockford IL 1945. Was a US Navy veteran of WWII. Graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1950, with a Masters in 1952. He was a hurdler on the track team, and met Harvey Newquist, who was attending DeKalb High. Helped him with interest in hurdles, giving a manual which assisted Harvey in winning the District Track Championship in 1950. He taught in the Rockford School System and was a highly recognized track coach. In 1973, he retired from coaching after winning the same District Track Championships. Harvey returned the manual to him in the late 1980's.
