Facts and Events
Jane Whitaker was orphaned at a young age when her parents died in the 1830's. Some time later, her older sister Margaret also died at the age of 19. Jane's Aunt Ellen Irwin, her mother's sister, then took custody of her niece. Together with her Uncles William and John Irwin, and her Aunt Ellen, Jane emigrated to the United States around 1850. On April 16, 1853 Jane married George Hazlett and they started their family life as pioneer farmers in Clayton County, Iowa. Jane Whitaker was preceded in death by her parents, her Aunt Ellen (Irwin) Tapper, her husband, and three of her children. She was survived by six children and today she has a large number of descendants living in the United States. |
