The seventh of eleven children born to 2nd Lt Elias Sr and Nancy (Wallen) Weddle of Brown Co IN, Jane married Capt James Taggart Jr on 10 Jan 1822 in Jackson Co IN.
Her father Elias and brother Thomas, were both killed in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in 1814. Elias is buried in Fayetteville, Talladega Co AL. Her mother Nancy remarried to William Curry in 1815.

6) Pleasant G Weddle (1801-1860), m: Anna Millsap.
7) James Wallen Weddle (b: 1807), m: Mary Elizabeth Davidson.
8) Elias Weddle Jr (1809-1881), m1: Anna Richards, m2: Hester Ann Weddle, his 1st cousin.
9) Armilda Millicent "Millie" Weddle (1811-1846), m: Pleasant R Hamblen.
10)Mordecai Bean Weddle (1812-1888), m1: Jane Marshall, m2: Mary C Richards.
Jane's husband, Capt James Taggart Jr, died in the Battle of Buena Vista (aka Battle of Angostura) in Mexico on 23 Feb 1847. He is buried near this battlefield in Buena Vista, Coahuila de Zaragoza, Mexico.
Jane's brother, "...Corporal Elias Weddel, was severely wounded" in the same battle that killed her husband.
When her husband died, Jane was only 42 yrs old. The youngest of their eleven children was Thomas, barely two months old. Jane added the "Captain T" to his name in honor of her husband. From then on he was known as Captain T or CT.
Jane remarried to Zachariah Kelly on 22 Mar 1852 in Brown Co IN. Zachariah either died early, in 1860, or they separated, as Jane is living with her son Franklin Patterson Taggart and family, during the 1860 Census. Whatever the story behind her marriage to Zachariah, she was buried as "Jane, wife of James Taggart".
