She was one of the first female students at Upper Canada Academy in Coburg Ontario. She taught in the Female Department there. It was renamed Victoria College in 1841 then Victoria University in 1884. It moved to Toronto in 1892 and federated with the University of Toronto.

She later taught at The Burlington Ladies Academy in Hamilton Ontario Canada. Her Brother, Daniel Cummins Van Norman, was principal of that institution.

After marrying the twice-widowered Aaron Emory, she lived in Aldershot, Ontario. Religious services were held in their home which led to the founding of what became East Plains United Church. (S5)

A file of her correspondence (S6) includes letters related to her residency at Burlington Ladies Academy and her courtship with Aaron Emory, her future husband.
