Jan. 21, 1926 - Sept. 11, 2008 Jane F. Scher, 82, of Huntington, died at 11:40 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at the Visiting Nurse & Hospice in Fort Wayne.

Born in DeKalb County on Jan. 21, 1926, she was a daughter of Alfred and Teresa (Hergenroether) Schortgen, she married Paul T. Scher in Huntington on Oct. 10, 1945.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice M. Scher of Huntington and Julia E. Scher of Avilla; a son, Jeffrey B. (Choleta) Scher of Columbia City; three brothers, Robert Schortgen of Columbia City, Herb Schortgen of Albion and Lawrence Schortgen of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Marge Timbrook of Hicksville, Ohio and Emilie Heeter of Lafayette; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Bailey-Love Mortuary with a rosary service at 6 p.m. There will also be a one hour visitation period prior to the funeral service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 859 Cherry St., Huntington. Burial is at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington. Memorial contributions may be directed to Huntington Catholic School in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington, IN 46750.
