Facts and Events
Jane Ranger married Edward Tuck in the parish of Broad Hinton 11 September 1727. Their first child was named Charles. Jane who died in 1761 was probably born about 1706. In the nearby parish of Binkworth and Charleton a Charles Ranger who was a carpenter was having children from about 1694-1710. However there were gaps in the Bishops transcripts of Charlton where the children were christened from 1704-1709 among other time periods. In Brinkworth a Joseph Ranger, also a carpenter and probably a brother to Charles married Elizabeth Skeat in 1702. They had their children christened in Brinkworth including a Jane born in 1703 and died the same year. From our research in the area we have determined that these are the only two Ranger's having children in this area of Wiltshire during this time period. In another part of Wiltshire in the area of Manningford there are two brothers Solomon and Edward, both sons of a Edward Ranger. The younger Edward had a daughter named Jane in 1696. We do not believe she is our Jane. There is a possiblity that Charles and Joseph could be sons of the elder Edward Ranger, but there is no strong evidence of that. Because of the proximity of Brinkworth and Charleton to Broad Hinton, the time period (1706), the gaps in the parish records and the naming pattern of Charles (Jane named her first son Charles probably after her father Charles) she has been added to this family. |
