Jane Gray

Samuel Withrow 1744-1813 married Jane Gray in 1766 in Rowan Co., NC. In 1768 he received a grant of 300 acres on Hunting Creek near the present Rutherford-Sunshine Rd. In 1772 Samuel died leaving his young wife, Jane, and 3 small children. Jane sold the land to Robert Rankin who was a brother-in-law of Samuel and bought another tract of land near George Black on Camp Creek. George Black was also a brother-in-law of Samuel. On April 27, 1774 Jane received letters for administration of the estate of her husband, Samuel Withrow, in Rowan Co., NC. After Samuel's death, Jane married Captain Samuel Pottinger in Nelson Co., KY. Jane followed the other Withrow's into the new Cane Creek settlements.
