Obituary Mrs. Adeline Swart Kerr. Mrs. Adeline Swart Kerr, mother of Burton E. Swart of Binghamton, and practically a lifelong resident of Oneonta, died on Friday afternoon at the home of her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Youngman. Mrs. Kerr had been ill since August last, but recently it was thought that she was improving and, on Thursday, she made plans to leave on Friday for Binghamton to reside with her son. Her condition became critical during the night, however, and shortly after midnight word was sent to the son that she was sinking. He arrived on Friday morning, by she was very low when he reached her bedside and she passed away without regaining consciousness. The funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home of her sister and was private. Dr. J. C. Russell officiated.
The maiden name of Mrs. Kerr was Jane Adeline Couse, she being a daughter of the late Erastus D. and Polly Couse, well known among older residents of Oneonta. She was born Oct. 21, 1847, and was married to Elkanah Swart Oct. 10, 1866, and their married life was passed upon the homestead of his father, Peter Swart, on South Side. Mr. Swart died in 1899 and several years thereafter she married the late Robert B. Kerr, who died some years ago. She is survived by the son, Burton E. Swart of Binghamton, and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Youngman and Mrs. John Yager.
