    'John McKnitt ... settled in Somerset County, Md., probably in 1684. He was accompanied by his first wife Jane, whom he had doubtless married in Northern Ireland a short time before sailing for America. Although her surname is not of record, I believe that she was an Alexander, probably sister to Samuel Alexander with whom John McKnitt was intimately associated in both Somerset and Cecil Counties.'

    'Sometime within a year [of 26 Feb 1691/2] thereafter the mother died, for on 28 March 1693 John McKnitt married Jane Wallis (Wallace).'
