James Robert Young was the son of James Harvey (8 Jun 1825 TN.-14 Dec 1909 Hawkins Co., TN.) and Margaret Laughner (4 Nov 1827 Green Co., TN.-22 Jun 1898 Hawkins Co., TN.). James Robert Young and his younger brothers Henry and Mack migrated to OK. Territory about 1885 and settled near Lone Grove, Carter Co., OK. where they were cattle ranchers. He and brother Henry acquire land on the East side of Ada, OK. in early 1896 where James Robert planted a cotton crop. In a letter to his wife Eugenia on Oct 1896, who was left behind with her mother, that he was harvesting his cotton. The couple settled on their farm East of Ada and survived through the winter in a tent. He was a charter member of the local Masonic Lodge which was established in 1898, operated a grocery store in Ada and was the Post Master in Ada from 1904 to 1910. He was also a member of a committee that proposed and move the Ada town site to it's present location.
