Facts and Events
Yesterday, Brother James Wickens, who has been for some time employed as a carpenter of Temple Block, visited the shop and on the account of feeling ill, returned to his home at 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon. Two hours afterwards, he seated himself at the table to take some food. He had been in that position but a short time when he expired. His family were, of course, thrown into the deepest grief and consternation by the event. The deceased was 67 years old on the 18th of January last and was a native of Surrey, England. He leaves a large family who were dependent on him for subsistence. We are informed that a number of his children is eight, the youngest of whom is three years old and the eldest about fifteen. Brother Wickens is spoken of as worthy man and the situation in which his family is left is one which should call forth active and substantial sympathy. The cause of death was heart trouble. This being perfectly clear, Coroner Harris decided not to hold an inquest. The funeral service will be held tomorrow (Sunday) at 2 o'clock in the 11th ward meeting house.
