Jim was a farmer, raised sheep, always had a good sheep dog. His favorite drink was gin. Jim and Mary were Baptists. They are buried in MT. Zion Methodist Cemetery.

They raised Five children:

John Bingham, married Lena Birdsong Will, married Lucy Jackson Partick Clay, married Emma Jackson, (sister of Lucy) Beulah, married Joe Barrett Burke, G. T. , married Gibson Orr.

"Jim" James Thomas Whitley, served in the Civil War from Heard county in Co.K--56th Regt. Army of Tennessee.

The date of birth of James Thomas "Jim" Whitley is attributed to Lela Craft's notes on a xeroxed copy of page 389 of "The Georgians: Genealogies of Pioneer Settlers" by Jeannette Holland Austin, Baltimore, Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1986.

Lela notes that the paragraph about James Whitley (re: him moving to Texas) is incorrect and is not about our ancestor Jim Whitley. Moreover, this source gives the date of birth of James Whitley as 1832, which corresponds more closely with a Gedcom entitled "John Davis" which gives November 1, 1837 as Jim's DOB. John Davis did not list the source of this DOB on this Gedcom. Lela gives Jim's DOB as Nov. 1, 1824 but does not cite her source.
