- James Whitcraft's Will
- Be it Remembered that I James Whitcraft of New London Township in the County of Chester and State of Pennsylvania. Being in a Reasonable State of Health and of a sound disposing mind and memory for which Forever I am thankful for, and being mindful of my Mortality am disposed to make this my last will and Testament in manner and form following viz. after all my Just debts and funeral Expenses are fully paid and discharged by my Executor herein afternamed and first I do will and bequeath unto my beloved wife Jane Whitcraft and my Son Jacob Whitcraft all my Estate Real and personal to be held and enjoyed by them my said wife and son in Equality that is to have Share and part alike during the natural life of my said wife, and at her decease my said Son Jacob Whitcraft to have and enjoy my said Estates Real & personal to him his heirs and Assigns forever Subject to the payment of the following Legacies and Bequests herein after mentioned Viz.
- I desire my Daughter Margaret McBride shall be paid the sum of fifteen pounds in three equal Yearly payment to be made to here or her heirs in the three years ___ to the Decease of my said wife
- Next I do give and Bequeath unto my Son William Whitcraft all my wearing apparell Immediately after my Decease and the further sum of five pounds to be paid to him at any time my Executor shall think fit in the space of three years after my Decease and next I do give and bequeath unto my son John Whitcraft the sum of Twenty pounds to be paid to him or his heirs in two equal yearly payments after the decease of my said wife Jane Whitcraft Aforsd.
- And now I do nominate Constitute and appoint my son Jacob Whitcraft above mentioned to be my whole and Sole Executor of this my last will and Testament hereby Revoking all former Will or Wills by me made Either beg worder? writing declaring this and no other to be my last will and Testament according to the true Intent and meaning thereof
- In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this fifth day of July in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Hinety 1790.

- Signed Sealed published pronounced and declared by the within named James Whitcraft the Testator as and for his last will and Testament in the presence of us who have hereunto set out names as witnesses in his presence and at his request. :John Hallowall, John Stell West Chester Octob. 29th 1799 then personally appeared John Hallowell and John Steel who on their Solemn affirmations according to Law did declare affirm & Say that they were present and did see and hear James Whitcraft the Testator within named Sign Seal publish pronounce and declare the within Instrument of writing as and for his last will and Testament and that at the doing thereof he was of a Sound well disposing mind and memory to the bewt of their understandings affim.

The Whitecroft family, now called "Whitcraft", settled in Pennsylvania at an early date. Their ancestor, James, landed at New Castle about 1730. His wife was Jane Baptist.
