    "Died - In Scio, Sunday morning last, Dea James Weed, in the 78th year of his age. He was one of the original pioneers in this county, having come in with the very first settlers. Twenty-seven years ago he went to Wisconsin where he remained about twenty years. He then spent about two years in Minnesota and returned to this county five years ago. He was a brother of Mr. Wm Weed, of this village, the old and well known pioneer. The funeral was on Tuesday, Elder N. V. Hull officiating."

    Deacon James Weed was one of the earliest settlers in Scio, Allegany Co., N. Y. He was raised a Presbyterian, but embraced the Sabbath, and was one of the constituentt members of the Amity Church, (now called Scio.) From Scio he emigrated to Albion, Wisconsin, and was a constituent member, by which he was ordained to the office of deacon. After a number of years, he moved o Freeborn, Minnesota, but finally returned to Scio, where he died, September, 1869, at the age of 78. He was a licentiate, and preached as opportunity offered for many years, and in the earnestness of his heart, labored and died in the cause of Christ.
