James Stretcher was baptised at Willian in Hertfordshire in 1626, the eldest of five children of a James Stretcher and his wife Elizabeth Baker.

Whilst no marriage has yet been found, it appears that James married a lady called Susannah, with whom he had four children at Willian in the 1650s and 1660s. After that no further sightings have been found of James or his family - although it is known that the Willian registers are defective for the late 1600s, with a major gap in the 1670s and 1680s.
