Biography

Little is known of James Stone at this point. Biographical sketch on his grandson George Stone of Pope Co, IL states James was a Revolutionary War veteran who died in Tennessee in 1814 leaving 3 sons and 3 daughters. The bio says George's father Silas was born 1805 in NC, but census readings note SC. Silas was the second child and first son. James must have been born 1760 at the latest to be at least 16 at the time of the Rev. War. Other researchers note James Stone died about 1830 in Coffee Co, TN. But Coffee Co was not formed until 1836. The 1814 date in the bio may be in error or he died in 1814 in either Bedford, Warren, or Franklin counties which later became Coffee County, TN.[1]
