I have in my possession, and would be willing to send copies of, about 6 original pages of Small family register that has come down through the descendants of Bridget Small (b. 12 November 1789, 1 of 5 children of James Small (b. 30 Sept 1765) and Anna (or Anara? Nickerson?)(b. 5 Dec 1765).

Bridget married Joshua Hopkins, and they and their offspring moved 1st to Tuckerton, N.J. (abt. 1817), then to Greenwich,Huron Co. OH.(will have to look this up, but say about 1830's or 40's.) If these people were typical, more extended relatives may have moved to these places in concert with them, or vice versa.

This register may have been an attempt to keep track of far flung cousins. It is written in several hands, likely was created about 1853, has been chewed on by a mouse, and has varying degrees of legibility. James and Anna Small are listed as being 88 and their children are in their 60's. Except for the Hopkins information (on its own sheet of paper), James and Anna have the earliest birth dates. Their children were born 1785-1790. Except for the short Hopkins information, and a John Small and Freeman Nickerson, all the others listed were born in the first half of the 1800's. Only a few of the individuals are clearly listed as being in family clusters. Some could easily be surmised to be parents and children from surname, proximity in the lists and birth dates.

One of the clear families is the following on its own small piece of paper: "Family Register, South Harwich, MAss, Sept 26, 1853 Eldredge Small, Jr. born July 19 1818 age 35 years Bethia P. Small born April 23, 1820 33 years Mary Ella Small born Sept 7 1844 9 years Eldredge Auburn Small born Jan 1, 1847 6 years

In addition to Small and Hopkins/ Linnell, the following surnames occur in these lists: Eldrige, Baker, Norway, Norawy (looks like a misspelling of Norway), Cahoon, Nickerson, Studley, Done, and Jinkins.

I have been working on other genealogical puzzles and haven't seriously tackled this one. Another family member has created a typed transcript. Would be happy to make photocopies for others to work on. Would appreciate hearing if anyone can steer me toward useful sources for Bridget Small Hopkins' parents, James, and Anna (Anara?)
