Obituary
Died at his residence in Astoria, IL July 29th, 1897 James T Severns aged seventy-seven years, ten months and two days. James T Severns was born in Coshchoton Co., Ohio Oct 27, 1819. In 1845 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Shayer to this union one son and one daughter was born. The daughter still survives the father. After the death of his first wife he was united in marriage to Miss Nancy Ogle Oct 2, 1851. To them was born 15 children, eight of whom with the mother and one sister mourn the loss of a father, husband and brother. The children living are Mrs. Ranson Harris and Mrs Alic Harris, Blandsville, Mrs William Cummings, Rushville, Mrs John Grove, Siesta, IL, Mrs John Stambaugh, Astoria, John Severns, Pekin, Mrs S.N. Flickenger, Frank and Walter, Astoria. Mr Severns located in Astoria in 1855 and resided here the reminder of his life. He was a carpenter by trade and for many years followed this avvocation. He was a kind, good hearted man and had many good traits of character. His death was caused by paralysis and for several months he had been a great sufferer. The funeral was held from the family residence Saturday morning at 10 o'clock conducted by Rev. Poulton of the U.B. church after which the remains were laid to rest in the Astoria cemetery.
