Obituary Died at the residence of John Groves two miles east of Astoria on Saturday, July 23, 1892, Mrs Jacob Haffner, aged ninety one years two months and eighteen days. Miss Susanna Lutz, a daughter of John B and Elizabeth Lutz, was born in Cumberland County, Penn May 5, 1801. When eleven years of age in company with her parents, she emigrated to Virginia where in 1818 she was united in marriage to Jacob Haffner, and to which union was born thirteen children, eleven of whom are still living, as follows: Mrs. Mary Wonderly, Andrew Haffner, Mrs. Susan Butler, Diana Jones, Jeremiah Haffner, Anannias Haffner, Mrs. John Grove, Balser Haffner, William Haffner, Mrs. Catherine Grove and Daniel Haffner. Elizabeth, the eldest daughter and John Henry, the fifth son are dead. She has sixty six grand children and seventy or more great grand children and three great, great, grand children living. Mr. and Mrs. Haffner lived in Virginia until the year 1851, when they emigrated to this state and bought a farm in Fulton County, two miles northwest of Astoria, where they resided until his death which occured Oct 16, 1866. For six years after his death she lived with her sons, Jeremiah and William. The remaining nineteen years of her life was spent with her daughter, Mrs. John Grove and family. Mrs. Haffner united with the German Reformed church at the age of seventeen and was a faithful christian through life. Her husband was also a member of this church so hand in hand they led a devoted christian life. Mrs. Haffner has been ill for the past five years, yet with all her suffering she never faltered, and when the end came was a faithful believer in Jesus. The funeral services were held at the U.B. church Sunday afternoon at 4:30 conducted by Rev. England and Elder Hughes after which the remains were laid to rest beside her husband in the Astoria cemetery.
