Was a Circuit riding Baptist preacher.

Founded the Dorcus Wills Baptist Church in Trinity. According to Omaha, his picture hangs in it. Also founded the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church by Clapp Cemetery in Trinity.

Dates are from his tombstone. Comes from "Trinity County Cemeteries" compiled by the Trinity County Historical Commission. He is buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery which is located to the west of the business section of town, just after you turn off of old Hwy. 75 North. Church was built in 1862. The church is still there, although now it's called the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Listed in the 1880 Trinity County, Texas Census, District 109, enumerated June 28th, page 321A, Dwelling 193, Household 215 as Jas M. Russell, age 44, widow, farmer and minister of ?, born AL, parents born SC. With daughter Mary D., age 19, born AL, father born AL, mother born SC; daughter Diana J, age 17, born AL; son Moses F., age 15, born AL; daughter Loving C., age 13, born AL; son Wm J., age 8, born AL; daughter Connie, age 5, born AL. Living near Dawson McManners.

County, AL census, August 1835 in Alabama. At the time of the census he was 64 and was married to Cassandra C., age 45, born January 1855. He was 19 years older than his wife. It shows them having been married 22 years. Living with them were two children, James M. Jr. and Clara C. ??

Wife Alice E., b. January 1879. They are shown as having been married 5 years. Two children are listed, Harvey B. b. June 1895 and John C. Russell, b. 1898.

QUESTION: Who is John C. Russell?? And could Alice E. possibly have been James M. Russell's daughter from his previous marriage. ie. possibly a sister of Mollie?
