    After his graduation from Yale James Root studied medicine with Dr. Sergeant at Stockbridge. Dr. Root first settled in Burlington, Vermont and then went to Athens, New York. He died from exposure to an epidemic. He was said to be a skillful physician...with the courtly manners of the old school. (Yale Graduates)
