From Savage's Genealogical Dictionary JAMES, New London, s[on]. of James of the same, a sea capt[ain]. m[arried]. 5 Nov. 1674, Mary, d[aughter]. of Jeffrey Jordan, of wh[om]. very pleasant tradit[ion]. is told by Caulkins, p. 202, tho[ugh]. as nothing was ever heard of her f[ather]. or mo[ther]. or bro[ther]. or sis[ter]. it may fail of truth in some partic[ular]. had James, Mary, Elizabeth Sarah, Samuel, Jonathan, Richard, and William. In 1677, his w[ife]. was fin[ed]. for absence from pub[lic]. worship as estab[lished]. by the governm[ent]. and soon after he and his w[ife]. were vexed for worsh[ipping]. estab[lished]. by his f[ather]. and friends. He d[ied]. 8 Nov. 1713. 1. James Rogers of New London, CT. "sea captian" James Rogers was called "Mariner" and was a ship-master and also had large landed possessions. He commanded the vessel that brought over the family of Jeffrey Jordon, whose eldest daughter, Mary, he later married. 2. Signers of the Mayflower Compact (in part): "Tradition says that Capt. James Rogers commanded a vessel which brought over a number of Redemptionists from Ireland, amoung them this Jordan family. On his arrival Capt. Rogers became the purchaser of the oldest daughter, Mary, an married her. In later life he would say "that it was the richest cargo he ever shipped, and the best bargain he ever made"" References
