- Article in the Weekly Maysville Eagle (Maysville Kentucky), dated 8 January 1879:
- James Reynolds, his wife Sarah (Webster) Reynolds and their children moved from Botetourt County about 1785 to the waters of the Elkhorn in Fayette County (soon to be part of the State of Kentucky, June 6 1792). Soon afterward, they removed to Mason County, Kentucky and settled permanently in the neighborhood of Minerva, near the Bracken County line. It was there that James and Sarah build their first log cabin. Several years later, their family had grown by six more children, Nancy (b. 1786), John (b. 28 Oct 1789), Polly (b. 1790), Isaac C. (b. 1 Jan 1793), William (b. 1794) and Thomas C.(b. 12 March 1796). The cabin was too small for this family so a second, 2-story log home was built about 3/4 mile northeast from the original cabin. James died 15 December 1801 and his will was probated on 1 February 1802.
