Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. : Quarles, James - entered service early in Revolutionary War as Captain in 2nd Virginia Regiment; Virginia Bounty Land Warrant #84 issued to soldier 12/31/1782; Virginia Bounty Land Warrant #150 issues to soldier 2/20/1783; resident of King William County, Virginia; dec'd in 1843; heirs who were granted Pension arrears due soldier then: James B. Owens & wife Magdalena, Mildred P. Owens nee Tinsley, & Mrs. Elizabeth Quarles Lake (resided Boston, Massachuetts who made affidavit there then she was granddaughter of soldier & Mildred P. Owens her niece); James & Magdalene Owens gave power of attorney then, King George County, Virginia, to agent Robert B. Bagby of King & Queen County, Virginia to apply for pension per witnesses Thomas Purkins (County Justice of the Peace) & Mary A.E. Purkins, & County Clerk of Court Solomon J.S. Brown; Robert B. Bagby was administrator of soldier's estate 1849 in King & Queen County, Virginia, per witnesses D. Butrick & Benjamin S. Taylor, & County Justice of the Peace Thomas Haynes; query letter in file in 1930 from descendant Mrs. Effie G. Moon of Woodburn, Oregon states soldier married Jane Fox
