Hello all I have been following this list for a while now so thought I mightpost a request for advice. I would appreciate any thoughts on what records to search etc....I amaware of the Scots Origins site and wonder if this might be worthtryingas I also have people in other areas of Scotland as well as Renfrew.Anythoughts on this and other research ideas as this is my first forayintoresearch in Scotland. Any books, web sites or other suggestions wouldbe very much appreciated. I would also like to find out more about Renfrew as I have no idea ofsize of county, population in 1840s etc and would like to become more familiar with the area. I have only the following details and am unsure where to look next, considering I am researching from Australia.

James PEACOCK born about 1823 in Renfrewshire Scotland married 21st December 1843 Renfrewshire Jane GREIG born about 1823 " " children Jane born about 1844 Agnes born about 1846 Sailed from Plymouth aboard "Cheapside" on 21st May 1848 as assistedimmigrants arriving Melbourne Australia 18th August 1848 where theyhadseveral children before James died in 1875. Note: they also had achild,Elizabeth, born at sea who died during the voyage at the age of 25days due to accidental suffocation by mother. I believe James may have had a brother William who also came toAustralia (1853). His parents were Walter and Janet (maiden name unknown). I have no further information on Jane GREIG.

They were all Presbyterian. If you have reached this point....congratulations!!!! and thank you. Iknow it is a little long winded but have included all I know hoping it may help you to help me.

Thanks for your time

Kind regards

Wendy Melbourne Victoria Australia
