“James M. and Eleanor R. Payne” conveyed in Barren County his inherited land from the saltpeter cave farm on Skaggs Creek, in 1841 (see Photos).
JAMES M. PAYNE and ELENOR PAYNE first appeared in a member list of First Presbyterian Church (OS) of Glasgow, Kentucky, May 14, 1840. JAMES and ELENOR first appeared in Session Minutes, February 20, 1842. During that Session, JAMES was elected an Elder of the Church and appointed Clerk of Sessions. He resigned as Clerk in 1845, resumed in 1852, and served through May, 1868. JAMES continuously served as Elder of First Presbyterian, last appearing in Session Minutes in 1871.
