James Nicholls was baptised on 30th July 1876 at Wheathampstead in Hertfordshire, the youngest child of a straw plaiter named Maria Nicholls, formerly Hornet, and her husband Daniel William Nicholls, an agricultural labourer. Sadly, James died when he was only eighteen months old, being buried at Wheathampstead on 24th January 1878.
