Clara Nicholls was baptised on 28th July 1872 at Wheathampstead in Hertfordshire, daughter of a straw plaiter called Maria Nicholls, formerly Hornet, and her husband Daniel William Nicholls, an agricultural labourer. Clara was the first of three children her parents had together, although both her parents had children from previous relationships, giving her several older half-siblings.

The 1881 census finds the family at Brewhouse Hill in Wheathampstead. By 1891 they were living at Nomansland to the south of the village. Later that year, Clara married Charles Seabrook. They settled on Cravells Road in the neighbouring parish of Harpenden, and had nine children between 1891 and 1913. Clara's father died in 1901, and her mother in 1906.

Charles died in 1932, aged 62. Clara survived him by nearly three years. She died on 14th September 1935 at the West Hertfordshire Hospital in Hemel Hempstead, aged 63.
