Military record describes James McClaskey as 6'1" tall, dark complexion, blue eyes, dark hair -lived in Cabell Co., VA, born about 1819 Mason Co., VA- deserted 18 May 1862. Franklin Co., VA returned to unit 25 Aug 1862, deserted again 14 Oct 1862and returned 1 January 1865. He was arrested and found guilty at his court martial whre he was sentenced to hard labor at military prison in Wheeling, WV starting 4 April 1865. James escaped prison 17 May 1865.
