Notes

Aka: MANIS "DESCENDANTS OF JAMES AND MARGARET (KELSAY) MANES: Margaret "Peggy" Kelsay, daughter of John and Mary (Anderson) Kelsay, was born in Greene County, Tennessee. She married there on February 19, 1810 to James Manes (also spelled Maners and Manis). They moved to Kentucky (probably Wayne County) by 1818. One source states they came to Cooper County, Missouri in 1829, but her obituary states it was in 1831. They are assumed to have had a large family, as their two known children were born eight to ten years after their marriage. There are a number of Manes-Maness marriages recorded in Miller County, Missouri, that are believed to be their descendants. One possible daughter--or grandaughter-- is Margaret Manes, who married in that county on August 15, 1858 to John Bowlin. The two known children of James and Peggy are listed below.

FIRST GENERATION 1) Lewis P. Manes, born 1818. Continued on his record.

2) Elizabeth Manes, born May 10, 1820 in Kentucky (probably Wayne County). continued on her record. [S1985]
