Blount Co. TN Deed Book 1 p. 338 28 Mar 1814 Samuel Cowan Esq., Sheriff of Blount Co. TN of the one part to James Logan of said County and State of the other. Witnesseth: that whereas by Virtue of writ of fine ficcus(?) Issued from the Sircuit Court of Siad County on a judgement obtained in behalf of Samuel Love against John Trimble, James Logan and John Wilson and to me the Sheriff directed on 20 Nov 1813 at the courthouse of Maryville to publish Sale to the highest bidder all the right & interest of the said John Trimble in and to one undivided moiety of a Tract of Land situate in said County on 9 Mile Creek containing 390 acres and 2 Rods bounded by line of James Stewart. Whereas James Logan did offer the best bid for all right and title the said Sheriff did bargain & sell the same to satisfy judgement. (signed) Samuel Cowan, Sheriff of Blount Co. In the name of God Amen I James Logan of Blount County and State of Tennessee being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory do this day and date of these presents make and ordain this my last will and testament as contained in the following Devises Viz:

Devise 1st I give and bequeath to my wife Betsy my dwelling house and all my household furniture except on bureau and me bed and furniture also I bequeath to he my Sorrel Steed Colt two years old and two cos and to have so much of the Benefits in profits of the farm in which I live as will Support her her lifetime free from want all of which Devise I will after her death to my Son James Logan and that during his minority he continue to live on my aforesaid farm with liberty to use my farming untensils, wagon and work horses on Said farm to the mutual Benefit of both my wife and Said Son.

Devise 2nd I give and bequeath my Son James Logan all the ballance of my estate whether real or personal as well the debts due and owing to me as that before mentioned out of which I ___ that all my Just debts be fully paid to effect which purpose I fully empower and authorize my executor or executors herein appointed to exercise a discretionary power in Setlling any part in the whole either at public or private Sale a tract of land in Monroe County on which the heirs of Joseph Carter now lives and for which premisses I am now at law and in the event I recover said land I also enjoing it on my executor or executors to exercise the aforesaid discretionary power with due regard to the best interests of the Said legatees to conclude to carry into effect the afore said devises.

I hereby appoing my wife Betsy and Andrew Cowan Senr. my executors in this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto affixed my Seal and Subscribed with my own hand this first day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred and twenty Seven.
