JAMES Lane of North Yarmouth, Maine came from London. He was a member of the Turners Guild in 1654, and joined brother Job (see Reyner) at Malden. They had uncles living at Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, England. [See Waters 1.472, 627; NEHGR. 11:103, 42:141]. A large landowner, and living on East side of Cousins’ River, a point and island still bearing the name Lane's Island [now part of the town of Vinalhaven. His son John deposed in 1733 that he moved there with his family ± 75 years ago since and they were living there 16 or 18 years before being driven away by Indians.
Career: Gr.j. 1665, tr.j. and j. life and death 1666. Sergeant and Clerk of the Writs (Mr.) 1665. Dep. to Genl. Ct. several yrs., ab. 7 yrs. bef. the Ind. war (son’s depos. 1735). Lists 211, 187.
He was Killed by Indians at Casco Bay and family driven away. [D. H. 6:3S6]. Nathaniel Wharf aged ± 72, and Jas. Wallis aged ± 63, deposed in 1733 that he was slain in the first war.
His wife is unknown.
