According to H. D. Baskerville, the Rev. James Holmes was educated ay Killygorden School and graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1780. He was ordained a clregyman in the Church of England. He married in 1785, Elizabeth Manley, who died 3 Mar 1837. They both died at Colesbourne Glebe, in Colesbourne, Gloucestershire where he was rector. All their 5 children predeceased them unmarried.
