James Alfred Hollinger was a civil war orphan. His father Samuel Hollinger died in a Confederate Prison at Richmond V. in 1865.
He was enrolled in the White hall Soldier's Orphan School in Camp Hill Pa. He became a graduate on his 16th birthday.
During his lifetime he held numerous professions including Miller, Blacksmith and metal worker.
