James Hickinbottom's origins have yet to be established for certain. If the age quoted at his burial is correct he was born around 1793.

James's first confirmed sighting is on 27th June 1813, when he married Susannah Perry at Eversholt in Bedfordshire. At the time of their marriage he was living in the nearby town of Leighton Buzzard. They returned to Leighton Buzzard and had two daughters: Rachel in 1814 and Elizabeth in 1815.

James died less than three months after Elizabeth's baptism. He was said to be only 22 years old when he died. Susannah outlived him, marrying again in 1818, just over two years after James's death.

The most likely baptism appears to be this one (on the same day as a brother called William):
    1793 / MY9 Wm s Jas-Ann HICKOMBOTTOM, about 3 years old, p.; Jas s Jas-Ann HICKOMBOTTOM, p.
This James was son of James & Ann Hickinbottom. However, no named connection confirming that the James baptised in 1793 was the same person as the man who married Susannah Perry has been established, nor has any record been found in which the James who married Susannah Perry explicitly gave his place of birth. It is also worth noting that the same transcript records a burial at Leighton Buzzard two weeks after this baptism:
1793 / MY23 Inf. of Jas HICKOMBOTTOM, poor.
Was this burial the three year old William or the baby James or someone else?
