He was educated in the Monroe County public schools of WV. He served with the U.S. Signal Corps in World War II from December 1943 to June, 1946 and was stationed in California and Missouri while in the States. His overseas duty was in the Pacific, India and China Theatre of War, and he was discharged as Sergeant. He started working for Appalachian Power Company, Glen Lyn, Va. in October 1941. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Rich Creek, Va., and helf most of the church offices. He was a Past Master of John Dove Lodge No. 78, Peterstown, WV., and was made a Master Mason in November 1943. He was a member jof Athens Chapter, R.A.M., Athens, Wv. . a charter member and Past President of the Rich Creek Lions Club, Rich Creek, WV. He served on the Rich Creek Town Council for approximately 10 years and held some jobs in the County Government of Giles County, Va. Roanoke Times, December 30, 2003: HESLEP, JAMES OREN James Oren Heslep, 81, of Christiansburg, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2003. He was born October 4, 1922, the son of the late Clarence Oren and Ora Jeanous Heslep. He was a member of the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church, past president of the Lions Club of Rich Creek, Virginia, a member of the John Dove Masonic Lodge, Lodge #78, Master Masons of Peterstown, W.Va., Former Town Council member at Rich Creek for 10 years, where he resided in Rich Creek for 35 years. He was a former member and Deacon at the Rich Creek Baptist Church, Elder in the Pearisburg Presbyterian Church and Princeton, W.Va. Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served in World War II in the China-Burma-India Campaign. Survivors include his wife, Mary; sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Ruth Heslep of Roanoke, Tom and Sharon Heslep of Princeton, W.Va.; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Mike and Ehryianah Heslep of Indianapolis, Indiana; great-grandson, Sawyer Heslep of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandson, Mac Heslep of Morgantown, W.Va.; and grandson, Aaron Heslep of Princeton, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 28, at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Don Makin officiating. Emtombment will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park.
