Personal History
James Hamilton,[2] styled Viscount Hamilton,[5] son of John James Hamilton and Catharine Copley[2] (later the first Marquess and Marchioness of Abercorn), was born 7 October 1786[2] at Petersham Lodge[1] and was baptized 4 November in Petersham, Surrey, England.[2]
On 24 October 1805,[3] James matriculated from Christ Church, Oxford, then aged 19.

The Rt. Hon. James Viscount Hamilton and Harriet Douglas (of St Marylebone parish and a minor with the consent of her father, the Hon. John Douglas) were married by licence on 25 November 1809 by W. Howley D.D., Canon of Christ Church, Oxford.
Death and Probate
James, then of Bentley Priory,[4] died 27 May 1814 at Upper Brook Street in Mayfair, Middlesex,[1] and was buried the same day in the parish of Stanmore, Middlesex.[4]
Having died before his father, Viscount Hamilton's first son, James, became the heir of the Marquess's titles.
