James Ham came to Nova Scotia with Prince Albert (later Consort to Queen Victoria) as saddler to the Prince, residing with him at Prince's Lodge, Halifax. Later, he was one of the four Magistrates of Halifax. Still later, he was Governor and his wife was Matron of Victoria General Hospital.
