- ↑ There is a record of a marriage of James Goodale and Sarah Johnson in Danvers on 5 Apr 1757. No mention of such a couple has been found in secondary literature, nor any children born to them, nor a death of Sarah. However, as this is eactly the year James would come to marrying age, it seems possible, maybe probable, that this is the first wife of James. Since his first son with the next Sarah was named James, there would not appear to have been any children (as noted none were found). That his marriage to Hannah labels her his second wife would be an easy mistake to make if both earlier wives were named the same, Sarah, and there were no children by the first one. It has been speculatively added to this page to see if its presence exposes any conflicts.
