His mother was Sarah Alice Rains Ford who died about 1919 in Cocke County, Tennessee possibly during flu pandemic. James had an older sister Laura who was born in 1910 and died before 1915.
Family called him JimIke. James married Mary Ruth Kirk in Greene County, TN on June 7, 1944 and they lived in Cocke County. They moved to NJ to work at Seabrook Farms. Soon she was diagnosed with leukemia and went back to Greene County for the last three months of her life.
James and both of his wives were deaf. He had no children, but his second wife Lottie had two daughters by previous marriage.
