Research Notes

  • His life is very well-documented by himself. See Annotated Transcript.
  • The location of his birth needs work. Most sources say that his father's Jenouille-Jaffe estate was in "Veaux" (Carpentras, Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Cote dAzur, France), but his own account 1 does not specify exactly where the estate was, only that his father had lived in "the borough of Vaux" prior to his marriage and that after the marriage he had purchased an "estate called Jenouille, and the manor of Jaffe near to it".
