James Fogle, Senior, was born near Pittsburg, Pa., May, 20th, 79 years ago. Twenty-seven years ago he came to Jewell county and for a number of years was engaged in the stock and farming business on his well improved farm in Grant township. He was a man greatly respected by every body, being kind and obliging to all with whom he had dealings. In his family he was kind and considerate and to all mankind just and honorable. If he possessed an enemy in the world we have yet to learn of such. In the sixteen years we were acquainted with him we never heard a man speak ill of him or so much as criticize a single act of his. No man in the vicinity will be missed more or more sincerely mourned than James Fogle. His sickness was of about two weeks duration, during which time he suffered greatly but bore it without a murmur. His funeral occurred at 10 o'clock a.m. Friday, May 13, at the M.E. church which was crowded, Rev. Muxlow officiating. Interment in Balch Cemetery. Pall bearers were Wm. Patrick, M. Owens, J.B. Calvin, Jacob Emigh, Levi Leidig and John Kelly.
