!James Dodrill/Daughdrill 1740-1806. He was born in Ireland 1740 He was the Head of Household in 1774 on tax rolls of Bernie Count N.C. He migrated to the New World in 1770. He enlisted in the Continental Forces on 20 July 1778 under the command of Colonel Abraham Sheppard as a private in the 10th Regiment (volume 16, p 1046 of North Carolina State records). He was promoted to Corporal on 3 Dec 1778. His enlistment name was missspelled "Doddriel". His first child was born 14 May 1779. No record of his marriage is known. His heirs did recieve a land grant in Western North Carolina which later became Tennessee.James Doddriel (note misspelling),as shown on page 1046 of North Carolina StateRecords,Dept. of Archives and History,enlisted in the Continental Forces on July 20, 1778 under Colonel Abraham Shepard,himself a resident of Bertie County and near neighbor to the Dodrill brothers. James Dodrill served as a private in the 10th Regiment-Blount's Co. He was promoted to Corporal Oct. 3,1778. A certificate in the State Records from Amos Thomas of Trenton in Bertie Co.NC certifying that James Dodrill was with him at Trentown. He is listed on the roster ofSoldiers from NC in the American Revelution,published by the North Carolina DAR.
